Our Methodology — How We Evaluate Diving Courses & Luxury Partners

Our Curation & Evaluation Methodology

The promise of a luxury diving experience rests on the quality and reliability of every single component. To ensure we deliver an unparalleled service, we have developed a proprietary evaluation framework known as the ‘Juara Standard’. This methodology is applied rigorously to our own operations and to every partner we choose to work with, from private villas to boat captains. It is our commitment to transparency and excellence.

The Juara Standard: A Four-Pillar Evaluation Framework

Every potential partner and internal process is audited and scored against four key pillars. A partner must achieve a minimum score of 90/100 to be included in our curated network.

Pillar 1: Safety & Compliance (40% Weighting)

This is our most heavily weighted pillar. There is no luxury without absolute safety.

  • Equipment & Maintenance (10 pts): Regular, documented servicing of all life-support equipment (regulators, BCDs, tanks) by certified technicians. Use of reputable brands like Scubapro and Aqualung.
  • Emergency Preparedness (15 pts): Comprehensive Emergency Action Plan (EAP), DAN oxygen kits on all boats, staff certified in Emergency First Response (EFR), and established protocols with local medical facilities and hyperbaric chambers.
  • Staff Certification & Ratios (10 pts): All instructors are active, insured PADI professionals. Boat captains hold valid maritime licenses. We enforce a strict maximum 2:1 student-to-instructor ratio.
  • Regulatory Adherence (5 pts): Full compliance with Kementerian Pariwisata and maritime regulations. Details are covered on our Safety & Compliance page.

Pillar 2: Instructional & Service Excellence (30% Weighting)

We evaluate the human element of the experience—the expertise and the art of hospitality.

  • Instructor Expertise (15 pts): Lead instructors must hold a PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer rating or higher, with a minimum of 1,000 logged dives. We assess their teaching style for clarity, patience, and adaptability.
  • Concierge Service (10 pts): The ability to provide seamless, proactive, and discreet service. This covers everything from airport greetings to handling special dietary requests.
  • Local Knowledge (5 pts): Deep, authentic knowledge of the local marine environment, culture, and logistics, as exemplified by our local team members.

Pillar 3: Luxury Asset Quality (20% Weighting)

The physical environment must match the quality of the service.

  • Accommodation (10 pts): For our villa and resort partners, we assess cleanliness, comfort, privacy, amenities, and overall aesthetic.
  • Vessels & Vehicles (10 pts): Our boats and ground transport must be modern, impeccably clean, well-maintained, and comfortable.

Pillar 4: Sustainability & Community Impact (10% Weighting)

True luxury is responsible. We only partner with those who share our commitment to preserving the beauty of Gili Air.

  • Environmental Policy (5 pts): Enforced single-use plastic reduction, responsible waste management, and adherence to reef-safe practices.
  • Community Engagement (5 pts): Prioritization of local employment, sourcing from local suppliers, and active contribution to community well-being. More on our approach can be found on our Sustainability page.

Our Process: Site Visits, Audits, and Continuous Feedback

Our evaluation is not a one-time event. It begins with an initial screening, followed by a multi-day, on-site audit conducted by our senior management. Once a partner is accepted, we conduct scheduled annual reviews and unscheduled spot-checks. We also incorporate structured feedback from every client into our continuous improvement loop. This rigorous, data-driven methodology ensures that the Gili Air Diving Course name remains a trusted guarantee of quality and safety.

Beyond the essential gear checks and dive master certifications, a truly transcendent underwater journey in Indonesia begins with the human element – the expertise, passion, and dedication of your instructors.

Pillar 2: Instructor expertise & educational rigor (30% weighting)

Every instructor within our network holds advanced certifications, often exceeding the industry standard PADI or SSI Divemaster requirements, with many boasting Instructor Development Course (IDC) staff instructor or Master Instructor ratings. We look for a minimum of five years’ active teaching experience in diverse conditions, ensuring they possess not only theoretical knowledge but also practical wisdom gleaned from countless dives. Crucially, we evaluate their communication style and ability to foster a supportive, encouraging learning environment. Our commitment extends to exceptionally low student-to-instructor
